Hook-a-Barra Fishing Adventures

Hook-a-Barra at the award-winning Daintree Saltwater Barramundi Farm offers fishers and non-fishers the chance to lure and land one of Queensland’s most prized fish, not only for its fight but also for its delicious eating.

This fun and informative experience includes one hour of catch and release barra fishing with all equipment, tackle, bait and tuition included plus access to special viewing tanks.

Hook-a-Barra’s multi-species pond is filled with the salt water sourced directly from the Daintree River and stocked with over 1500 Barramundi (including albinos) ranging from 50cm to over a metre, and Mangrove Jack.

Hook-a-Barra is suitable for all ages and abilities with a huge range of tackle and a fly-fishing option for expert anglers, plus everything a beginner needs to get hooked!

Non-fishing guests with general admission have full use of all facilities, picnic area and access to the viewing tanks.

Farmed Barramundi Fishing

This is sustainable fishing at its best! Don’t deplete Australia’s limited wild stock, practise your lure and land techniques at Hook-A-Barra.

These are farmed Barramundi, but anglers won’t be disappointed with their fight. They are wild creatures and will behave exactly the same as those living in rivers. Our fish are not trained to jump on your hook, so your technique is very important!

For beginners, guidance is provided by experienced staff. For experienced anglers (who may be skeptical about ‘fishing in a pond’), this is your chance to practise your Barramundi catch and land techniques and try new lures and equipment. NB: For your safety and ours, there are no treble hooks allowed at Hook-A-Barra, we use single, barbless hooks only and for bio-security reasons we cannot allow private rods and tackle to be used in our ponds.

Session Times & Prices

The Hook-a-Barra fishing experience costs $56 for adults and $46 for children 5-14 years.  This includes an introduction to Barra Fishing, rod & tackle setup and the assistance of guides around the ponds with techniques, tips and netting your catch.
