This tour is a self-drive experience. However, we also offer a fully inclusive fishing, farm and lunch tour from Cairns and Port Douglas with transfers from your accommodation for added convenience.
Our Barramundi farm tours take you behind the scenes of the multi award winning Daintree Saltwater Barramundi Farm. We cast the net wide to show you just how we hand-rear Australia’s best farmed Barramundi, taking it from fingerling to finger food. Best of all – it ends with the most delicious tasting plate featuring a seasonal array of Barramundi produce – which may include smoked barra, sashimi, battered barra and barra gyoza.
We keep the numbers small on our premium Gourmet Barramundi Farm Tours, and the experience big. Wander around the farm with your guide and learn more about this iconic fish and how we farm it sustainably, right here in Far North Queensland. You’ll get to feed the barra, check-in at the growing ponds have a masterclass on how to fillet a fish. A 1-hour journey of fishy discovery.
The Daintree Saltwater Farm Tour is a premium, small group tour lasting 1 hour. It includes a meet and greet and walking tour around the various ponds and locations on the Daintree Saltwater Barramundi Farm. As a part of the tour, you get to feed some of the barramundi in our ponds, where you’ll see them race, jump and fight for food. It gives you a first-hand view of the energy and enthusiasm of the iconic Barramundi. Next step is some catch and release fishing, to check the weight and health of the fish. So good!
Time to taste. We’ve prepared a gourmet tasting platter, showcasing our award-winning produce prepared in a range of styles. Sashimi. Battered. Grilled. Smoked.

The Daintree Saltwater Farm Tour is both undercover and in open air. It is recommended you wear a hat and long-sleeved sun shirt, with appropriate sun protection. Comfortable walking shoes are also recommended.
We have plenty of on-site car parking and covered tables and chairs. There is a viewing tank, where you can see some of our rare Speckled (Panda), Albino and Golden Barramundi – as a part of your tour, our crew will demonstrate their feeding techniques here. We have a café that specialises in showcasing our beautiful barra in burgers, fish and chips, gyoza and even sashimi. Cold drinks are available to purchase, as is a unique selection of barramundi souvenirs and merchandise. There are toilet facilities for guests.

Please note the general admission price is for any members of your family or group that are visiting but not participating in the farm tour. The general admission price allows you to see our viewing tank, which is home to some rare Albino, Speckled and Golden Barramundi, and enjoy our on-site facilities.

Hook-A-Barra is located on the Daintree Saltwater Barramundi Farm, which is Lot 3, Vixies Road, Wonga Beach, Queensland. We are about a 90 minute drive from Cairns, or about 30 minutes north of Port Douglas. Guests need to self-drive, as there is no public transport available at this time. NB: If you are staying in Port Douglas, then our 4-hour Port Douglas barramundi fishing tour might be for you – it includes transfers, a farm tour, 1 hour of barra fishing and lunch.
