What an amazing experience. Steve was our Guide and he went out of his way to help my youngest daughter on our day. We will be back next trip to Nth Qld
Incredible day! Fishing experience was so much fun.Staff were extremely knowledgeable, had such respect and compassion for their fish. You can tell the Barramundi are very well cared for.The kitchen also prepared the most delicious barramundi tacos, super fresh, juicy, and tasty. 100% recommend!
Absolute brilliant experience. Food was great too. Hit up a smaller pond and got smashed by barra then chased some bigger ones in the trophy pond. Workers were determined to get us hooked up to one and showed up many techniques and changed our lures to try all options. Recommend highly
A must do attraction if staying around Port Douglas / Daintree! Great day out for the entire family! Excellent staff, educational, and most importantly great fun! We started fishing for the smaller Barra where everyone in our group caught numerous fish, before moving onto the ‘Trophy Pond’ and catching some trophy fish (800mm+). Entry gets you a free sun protection face mask (shown in the photos) and there is also a discount for locals. You can bring your own rod / lures as well. Good food and a relaxed place to sit in the shade with a cold beverage and watch the excitement of other families reeling in fish. The kids loved the brag board too, where you list the size of the biggest fish you caught, although the fish seemed to grow a few cm’s between release and recording on the board 🤔 There were smiles all around,I highly recommend giving it a go!
I cannot recommend this place enough. One of the most fun and welcoming experiences I had in Cairns. The boys were very welcoming and friendly, all helping out making sure we were ok and helped teach my partner how to flick a lure. Rob was an absolute legend, he stayed back with my partner and I to make sure we enjoyed our time and had a good barra experience. This place is at the top of my list if I return to cairns, I’ll be sure to come past for lunch next time!Make sure to ring before you go and make sure there is a session running, and go in early if you want to have lunch as the kitchen closes early!
Had the best time. Great commentary from Amos on the way and tour. We had a beautiful lunch of fish and chips for me and fish tacos for hubby all made from fresh Barra. Best of all bagged a 92cm Barra and got myself on the brag board.
Excellent guides. Aquaculture walk around the farm was really interesting. Go on a Wednesday morning, when they harvest the barra with a big drag net and an excavator
The lads here helped me catch my first ever fish! It's a great experience and they let you keep fishing until you catch something, which is greatly appreciated. Great, friendly team.
I can honestly say Hook-A-Barra was an amazing and great experience and Lee was the most perfect host, adding great advice which made this venture a memorable one! Tight Lines was an understatement for this beast
We've visited Hook-A-Barra half a dozen times over the years and the kids are excited to visit every time. The farm is professionally run and the staff go to great lengths to ensure you have a great time and catch some Barra! The staff are very patient with visitors and offer advice on lures and technique. They also show genuine care for the Barra in how they handle and release them. Hook-A-Barra is a must do when in FNQ.
A must do experience with kids. We came with my 9 year old son, none of us had any experience in fishing and We ALL had an awesome time. Learning a bit about the barramundi, catching a few fishes each and finished our time with a delicious lunch - the absolute BEST FISH AND CHIPS in Queensland. You cannot ask for more!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!
Came with some colleagues to Hook-a-Barra just before Christmas and it was a great experience. Friendly staff, and a great setup! Managed to snag a 104cm Barra too which was the pick of the day! Good food
Had a great time here. Terrific crew who look after you very well, and educate you too! No guarantees that the barra will bite but it's great fun when they do (especially the big ones 😁😁). The tucker at their Cafe is top notch too. Highly recommended.
Awesome day for the whole family! Everyone loved it and we all caught something. Suitable for all ages, both of our boys had a great day (3 and 8). All of the guys were friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend and well worth it.
Great place and friendly staff that provided great tips on how to catch the big ones. We spent 2 hours fishing and caught great fish. We had lunch there. Highly recommend it.
We came here with our 7 and 5 year old kid and had an incredible time! Everyone caught some barramundi, the educational briefing before hand was insightful, and the food was DELICIOUS! a well run operation!!
A fun and informative half day excursion that was value for money. Staff were all friendly and helpful and focused on giving you a great experience. The farm is a commercially operating salt water barramundi enterprise and it was so interesting to learn how the fish are raised and great fun to fish for then release a barra, followed by a yummy fresh barramundi lunch.Thank you Lee for being an excellent guide.I would definitely recommend this experience, suitable for anyone who can cast a line or eat fish.
We had a fab time with Leigh. Yes it rained a lot but we went prepared with a poncho (KMart Port Douglas have them) and change of clothes. An awesome time catching fish and then a tasty lunch. Those barra are very strong for their size. Had me hanging on to the line with force!
What a lovely place! We didn't fish but took a farm tour instead. It was facinating and a lot of interesting facts about the history of the farm and day-to-day activities. And the lunch was so delicious! Just fish and chips but deserves all five Michelin stars. If you are in the area, go and visit the farm.
Unreal experience. The staff were u real. Made it super memorable for my 7 year old. And the work they do for the barramundi is top shelf in terms of how the manage the farm. Great experience
We were lucky to have VIP treatment as onky ones on that time slot before more customers came. The staff have so much knowledge helping us to catch barras. I caught an 88cm and my partner 90cm along with others and many bites. We bought one of the ones we caught to bring home for dinners over 4kg yummy. The crew showed us techniques with different lures (I loved the frog) definately will be back for another visit. I recommend the 2 half hour if you really want to try to catch the big ones well worth the money Thanks guys was an awesome few hours.
The boys had a good time Hooking a Barra. Matt was very informative and friendly. Rob was very helpful with tips for hooking a barra. We had fish & chips for lunch there, fresh from the pond.Highly recommend going there.
This was the absolute best fish and chips we've ever had. The crust was beautifully crisp and the fish was tender and absolutely perfect. The guys there was super nice and gave great recommendations of what to try. Between the fish sandwich and fish tacos, it made for an incredible lunch
What a great low key tour. Most enjoyable. From pick up to drop off staff were most helpful and informative.Looking forward to visiting again when next in the area.
What a brilliant experience! The team at Hook-a-Barra are LOVELY, so friendly, knowledgeable and cannot do enough for you. Their passion really shines through and they really want you to have a good time, so they do everything they can to make that happen. From the low key briefing at the start (which was - suprisingly - super interesting) to the fishing experience and then the food afterwards, I couldn't have asked for a more fun day out. Thank you.If you've never heard of Hook-A-Barra (we hadn't, we just saw the boards as we drove past) and are looking for an activity for the whole family (even those that have never fished before or even those who've fished loads, they have something for everyone) then get online and book a session. Super easy to get to and plenty of parking.
Did not disappoint do the 2.5hr option 1hr just goes by way to fast.Enjoy the food after your fish great way to spend a few hours on holidays. 100% do this.
Our 8-year-old son loves to fish. The team were great, notably Bonnie who went out of her way to try to give him the best experience. Unfortunately he didn't have any luck catching a fish however was able to reel a decent barra in!
Great experience to catch a huge fish and reel it in. The staff were friendly and made the experience the best with tips on casting, speed of bringing the lure in to attract fish. They helped us all catch a fish. Fantastic
Absolutely loved our experience at Hook-A-Barra! 🎣 We landed some impressive 3kg fish and the team went above and beyond to make sure my 11-year-old son was looked after and involved. Super welcoming, professional, and heaps of fun — a perfect day out for families and fishing enthusiasts alike! Highly recommend
Great place to spend some time.We all caught a couple of fish each and saw some very good fish taken in the trophy pond.Great guides who shared their knowledge.
Staff were great. Steve was very knowledgeable and gave us a great interesting tour around the farm. Sylvan helped us hook a barra and lunch was perfect and fresh. Highly recommend it. Thanks team. Support qld farming!!!
A brilliant experience. The staff were fabulous with my kids and made a special effort to help them catch a Barra, giving great help and fishing tips. Highly recommend.
Great teachers, my son is autistic and left handed and these guys went above and beyond to help, teach and provide a positive experience. We can't wait to go fishing now and use the knowledge we were given, thank you so much 🙏
Our second time visiting Hook a Barra- Fantastic experience for the whole family. Staff there are very friendly and helpful. Definitely worth doing if you’re staying in Port Douglas
Highly recommend Hook A Barra! We did the farm and fishing experience and it was fantastic. The kids loved it! It was great seeing how the farm works and what goes into running a Barramundi farm. If you are thinking of doing this experience, definitely book with these guys! The staff couldn’t help enough and were very friendly and knowledgeable. Thanks for a great day!!
I had such a wonderful experience here! The fish is incredibly fresh—probably the best I’ve had in a long time. You can really taste the quality, and everything was prepared beautifully. On top of that, the customer service was outstanding. The staff were friendly, helpful, and went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect. Highly recommend for anyone who loves fresh seafood and great service!
What a quality product! This is a wonderful place to hone your skill set! Who ever thought of setting up a business like this should be commended…..We took a 3.4 Kg Barra and had it cooked at our favourite seafood restaurant in Port Douglas. Absolutely delicious!!!
The boys really loved their fishing experience at Hook a Barra. Sensational staff took the time to explain everything, very helpful and even filleted the Barramundi to take home for us. Highly recommended, this is our second visit. Love it.
Awesome time with the team from Hook a Barra, from Port Douglas pick up, farm tour, included delicious lunch and of course the fishing experience was all fantastic. I hadn’t fished before and was a little hesitant at first not confident about casting the line, although with a few pointers and guidance I eventually was partly successful to cast my own line and to my surprise caught my very first fish! Thanks team for an incredible experience, definitely would recommend this to everyone and we will be back when we visit the area again!
What a great experience we had today. Enjoyed the fishing tour we both got to catch our own barramundi. Lunch was great so fresh and delicious. Thank you
Always wanted to catch a Barra - had been on the bucket list for a while. Great morning out - super friendly and helpful staff - and yes, we caught our Barra! Highly recommend
My wife and I visited from Sydney with our 3 young sons. What an amazing experience! All of us managed to catch at least one Barra. Steve is a lovely bloke - very patient and attentive and was quick to offer tips to ensure everyone was successful. Great food as well. Highly recommend this place and will definitely be back!
Lunch with a show! We got to enjoy the freshest barramundi in the world while learning about the fish and seeing people catch them too. Sophia makes a mean barra in every style. Thanks for a delish fish!!
Great farm tour and as an added bonus caught a barra and had it wonderfully prepared by the kitchen. A must do if you're in Port Douglas, Mossman, or on your way to the Daintree!
Great place to stop for lunch and a fish. The staff were great and we all learnt a lot about their farm and Barramundi.Definitely worth a visit if youre passing by.
Visited Hook-a-Barra with family, a great day, we all caught a Barra each, staff were friendly always ready to give a helpful hint on how to catch a Barra and bag it. Highly recommend it.
