Had a great family day out and the crew were great with my kids and would highly recommend anyone to go and do a few hours here. We will be back. Thanks guys
Had a great time at Hook-A-Barra. We did the farm tour with lunch and fishing. Michael was our guide and did an outstanding job and explained everything we needed to know about Barramundi and the workings of the farm. We then sat down for a lovely Barra tasting plate before delving in to an hour of fishing. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area
Did a tour of the farm as well as sample the food and some fishing. The farm operates in a very economical sustainable way whilst also producing fantastic eating barramundi. The food cooked up here by the chef is amazing I went back for 2nd lunch! And of course being able to hook a barra is always fun
Have to say that all the staff were incredibly friendly, helpful and informative. The farm tour was interesting and well presented. Whilst fishing the crew were there to assist and offer advice as well be as landing catches for the fishermen. At no time did we ever feel rushed or pressured - thanks for a great experience.👍👍
We had a great morning at Hook-A-Barra, caught two barramundi- one at 98cm! All staff were super friendly and helpful. We purchased some barra fillets and cooked for dinner that night which tasted delicious. Thanks for a great experience!
What a great day at Hook-a-Barra! A huge thanks goes to Michael and Dan. They who taught us about Hook-a-Barra and more importantly how to catch a Barramundi. We decided to do the catch and keep experience because my wife loves Barramundi. They did warn us we may not catch anything because we would be fishing in pond that is not normally used. With their help, providing fishing tips, sorting the bird’s nests I created in the braid and manning the landing net we were both able to land a good size Barra, 4.5kg and 8.5kg.Unfortunately, the other 2 in our group got hooked up a few times but failed to land a fish. 😞At Hook-a-Barra when you do the catch and keep there is an $18 per kg fee for the fish. And as my dad would say – You catch it, you have to clean it! That’s right, Hook-a-Barra do NOT clean the fish for you if you want to keep them. That was fine with me, never had to clean a Barra before. For those of you not from croc country. It’s not recommended or fishing etiquette to clean fish near the water or boat ramps. And any discarded fish bits – heads etc should go in the bin. Not back into the waterways – it can attract crocs. Nobody wants crocs waiting at the boat ramp for a feed. 😉Happy fishing
What a great experience! We did the tour, tasting and fish, loved it all. Michael was a great tour guide and a wealth of information. Both my husband and myself both hooked incredible Barra. Highly recommend the experience.
The fishing experience here is generally good, especially if you're into catching barramundi. The equipment provided is decent, and the staff are reasonably helpful. However, the setting is quite basic and may lack some of the excitement found at more elaborate tourist attractions. It’s a suitable destination for a quiet day of fishing but might not offer much beyond that for those seeking diverse activities.
Brilliant. 1 hour session. We caught a barra which we took for dinner....small meal for 4 $25. Then I caught this big fella which I put back but it gave us a better idea of what to use when we fish from our boat. Staff were great and helpful but you'll have to gut and fillet your own barra even if you buy it.
What an experience! Plenty of help offered by staff and a satisfying way to introduce kids to actually catching something! Although mums sometimes land the big one!
What a great day....Michael and the rest of the team were so welcoming and great easy-going personalities, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The whole experience was great, from the informative tour, the taste testing and of course catching a few good sized barra. Can't recommend Hook-A-Barra enough, a must do!Cheers Allyson & Mike
This was such a fun experience! The whole family hooked a Barra and they all say it was in their top 2 activities from our Port Douglas holiday.Staff were super helpful & friendly. Parking was easy. Highly recommend!
Stopped here as part of our ‘Daintree Sensations’ day trip. Had a tour of the facility, fished and had an amazing lunch - food was simply superb and they were able to cater for GF with ease. Will definitely return for lunch and another fish one day. Checkout ‘Daintree Sensations’ if you want a truely fabulous day.
Brilliant place, had a ball! Staff are super helpful, informative and friendly. Very generous on fishing times. Was a fantastic experience - A MUST DO!(Lunch is also delicious!!)
This was a great experience! Very friendly team, and super interesting to learn about their business. The kids had a ball hooking the barra and the food was excellent.
We had a wonderful experience on the farm and fish tour at Hook a Barra. The staff were incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about Barramundi farming and sustainability, making the tour both informative and engaging. The fishing was a lot of fun, with multiple ponds to try and the chance to catch a few Barramundi. They maintained high standards for fish welfare throughout. Highly recommend!
If your going here for a fish be sure to grab something to eat as well. Absolutely delicious, brilliant chef. Best feed you will get!!!We had Taco, Burger, Spring Rolls, Crumbed Barra, plater for one.... all of which was 10/10From Tassie 🐟
had a really fun arvo here, great experience. especially if you are just up here for a holiday and don't know your way around local fishing spots. you learn something about these iconic aussie fish and have a great time trying to catch some. I got lucky and caught quite a few and a big dog just over a metre too! special thanks to dan and michael, great fellas, keep going! can definitely suggest to visit if you feel like a bit of fun barra fishing. some footage soon on my youtube channel: traveller's mindset! 🤙🏼🎣
Great day at Hook-a-Barra, the tour was really interesting and the tasting platter delicious and generously sized. Great value on the family price. We all caught some Barra although the big ones were elusive. There are lots of friendly and helpful staff around to help out and make sure everone gets the best chance to land some. We went for more fish and chips after - couldnt be fresher.
Really good fun, thoroughly enjoyed catching a couple of this iconic Australian species of fish,(even if it is a fish farm). Staff were great as well.👍⭐️👍
The staff were all awesome and very knowledgeable in their field. They were all kind and caring and did whatever it took for my husband to catch the big barra.
I am not a fisherman , but the owner operator of this venue was very helpful and gave us a quick tour and description of what they did. It is a great place for kids and families to see and learn about the barra fish. Very good.
The best place to “hook-a-barra” in FNQ! The staff were so incredibly knowledgeable, helpful and kind throughout the entire session. Started the session with a quick educational program focused around what they do and why it is so important, then we started to fish. Staff were so encouraging and made our time there so enjoyable. I couldn’t recommend “hook-a-barra” more. 10/10 experience.
Myself and my daughters boyfriend Kye went here today and had a great time. It's a pleasant half hour drive from Port Douglas. I hooked up a few but didn't land one but Kye got two including a rare Albino Barra. The highlight of the day was seeing an 8 year old girl land the fish of a lifetime with a 102cm fish. The staff are great and go to the next level to make sure you don't go away disappointed. Especially the kids. And don't overlook the food. I had the tasing plate which was terrific. The best part was the Sashimi Barra.I would recommend this place to anyone, young, old and in between.
We did the farm tour and the fishing experience. Absolutely fantastic! The farm tour was really interesting and the fishing experience was also excellent. Michael helped my 7 year old reel in a 103cm fish so we all went home exhausted but very happy! Highly recommend
Our family enjoyed this so much on our holiday we’re going back again! We booked the farm tour, fishing & gourmet taste testing for lunch. The staff welcomed us like family & they are so passionate about sustainable, healthy & happy fish.
Fantastic time had by our family. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. It took a while for our son to land his Barra but with tips from the staff he got one in the end out of the trophy pond. Highly recommend that you visit Hook a Barra, thank you! Troy and family
Dropped by for some barramundi spring rolls, which were great but ended up having my first fish in years and hooked a beauty!! Thoroughly enjoyed myself and would recommend.
My wife and I took our 6yo son in the hope of him catching a fish while on holidays. We booked an early session for 1 hour before we went to explore the Daintree..The staff were unreal and very helpful !My son and I both caught good fish thanks to the staffOnly issue we have is our son won’t stop talking about Hook A Barra !!
Great day on the Hook a Barra tour. Fun fishing with some very keen and friendly staff to assist. Very yummy barra and chips for lunch. Very interesting tour of the fish farm, seeing a panda barra and checking out the inlet creek and sediment beds. Highly recommended for a different outing. Our thanks particularly to Michael and Sam for their interest in our having a grand time.
My wife and I spent some time fishing there during our trip to cairns. We did the farm tour and got to see the fingerling treatment/release followed by a fantastic lunch, the chef even made sure to make something extra for our baby.Fishing was great, Pb of the day was a 90cm barra, the staff were very helpful and welcoming.I wouldn't hesitate the recommend this place to anybody
Fantastic experience at Hook-a- Barra. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly and take the time to make sure you are comfortable and have a fantastic experience. Thanks for a wonderful, time today!!

Dropped in briefly on our way to Cape Tribulation hoping to make it back later for a fish but were too late. Thanks Simon for the advice and cheeky chat! You are a legend mate!! Gavan and Brigitte 🌞
What an experience!! The staff are super friendly and helpful. We had an amazing morning catching some big fish then finished it off with the freshest battered Barra & chips!! Family fun time at its best. Thank you
Both kids and adults loved fishing at Hook a Barra. Michael and the team were really friendly and helpful and we caught plenty of fish. Also bought a fillet to cook at home which was absolutely delicious!
We had an incredible time with Hook a Barra. The staff were so friendly and helpful and gave us plenty of tips. They were great with our four year old and made sure he had a great time too. All staff ensured we were well looked after and we felt we got our money worth and more! After a full hour on the first pond where only some of us had some luck they let us fish for another 20-30mins at a different pond where there were more fish. Out of 6 of us, 4 caught a Barra (some caught two or three!!) and we all had multiple bites. We understood that although they are in ponds you are not guaranteed to catch them! They are still pretty elusive. It was a great time for all. Thanks to all the crew for their efforts.
Great experience, we highly recommend! Worth the wait, fight and big smiles. My sons confidence and love for fishing has gone upto 100% thanks to the care and fishing tips from Michael and the whole team at the barra farm. Would do it all again, didnt feel like a farm, still the right amount of challenge and reward. So good with kids and adults here. Lunch topped it off, fresh and best barra and chips.
This was our second time to hook a barra and we had an amazing time. The staff were so helpful, especially with our young kids who ended up catching some monsters. The lunch we had after was great as well. Well worth the trip.
Had an amazing time today at Hook-A-Barra. All of the staff were great, they were very helpful and shared a wealth of knowledge. My husband caught so many fish and didn't want to leave. We had the Barra burgers for lunch, they were delicious. We will definitely be going there again.
Wonderful place to visit. Staff were very polite and helpful with all their fishing knowledge. Had a wonderful time catching a “unicorn” barramundi. Highly recommended
Snagging a big barra was amazing but the "behind the scenes" tour of the barramundi farm should not be missed. We were capably hosted by the brilliant Michael who shared his expertise of the farm's operations and acted as trusted fishing guide.Highly Recommended.
A late minute decision to join friends at Hook-a-Barra turned out to be a great idea. Although the bigger Barra went quiet, the juveniles were quite active. Highly recommend the crew and their assistance. The Tucker is on point too!!!
Had a great day of fishing today. The Hookabarra team made the fishing experience a pleasure. Helpful, welcoming and a good bunch of people. I highly recommend a trip. Doesn’t matter what level of fishing experience you have. My family and I will definitely be back. Cheers!
One of the highlights of the trip to Port Douglas. Doesn’t matter how experienced you are the guys working are great, so helpful and friendly. Such a great experience would recommend to anyone
Had an amazing day at Hook a Barra today! The crew were all really friendly and helpful. Caught heaps of fish and had a great meal afterwards! Would definitely recommend.
We were the only ones on the 9.00am tour, which was fantastic as we had the wonderful, knowledgable Steve all to ourselves. We both caught fish and dropped a few "monsters".Great value for money. Highly recommended.
My son and I had a fantastic time today fishing for barramundi, and we highly recommend the 2.5hr fishing experience. He loves the fishing neck cover souvenier. The staff were so polite and friendly, offering tips and help whenever we needed. I will be buying this experience for my niece and nephew as its truely something special to remember forever. You have to check this out
We had an amazing time at Hook-A-Barra today! Simon and the team were incredible and we had so much fun! A big shout out to the lovely staff members, we didn’t catch their names but the lovely Irish lady and young guy from Darwin! Also, the cook who made us a delicious lunch, the tacos were to die for. Thank you!
Absolute- must do experience. We caught the shuttle organised by the farm from Port Douglas on pick up Michael introduced himself and instantly we felt welcomed..Michael led us on a tour around the farm which was very interesting and engaging and spoke about how the farm operates as well as the damages caused by the recent flooding caused by cyclone Jasper. We were saddened to learn that over 60% of their operations were damaged because of their flooding including some of their barramundi being unfortunately released into the Daintree river (great fishing now for the locals!)After our tour we had a really lovely lunch of fish and chips (other options including chicken available) which was cooked locally on the farm. Then we were into fishing! As someone with minimal fishing experience we were taught the tips and tricks on how to catch the barramundi and ended up catching two fish each, two of which were nearly 80cm!!Highly, highly recommend.Be sure to take a long sleeve shirt, hat and sunglasses as you are outside. Can’t wait to go back with family!
What a great day for my husband, son and grandson. The staff where so helpful andprofessional and fun to be around and so hepfull spiecaly with my husband who is on a walking frame. All caught a fish, fully recommended this experience worth every cent
