The three of us girls had the most wonderful time at Hook-A-Barra! From the warm welcome and fantastic tour to the magnificent lunch and exciting barramundi fishing, everything was perfect.A huge thank you to Grace, Steve and Tip — you were unbelievable! Your hospitality made our day truly unforgettable. Highly recommend! ❤️🐟
Sooooo much fun for the whole family followed by a delicious feed! It was the best Barra I had ever eaten! Definetly 5 stars! It was awesome!! The staff were super friendly and relaxed and helped us throughout the whole experience! I have a moon boot and they were very helpful and considerate about it. Just had an awesome day
We visited Hook a Barra with a group ranging from a 4-year-old to adults, and everyone had a blast. The briefing at the start was quick and informative, so even our youngest knew what to do. Then we had a full hour of fun fishing, and every single one of us caught something! The guides were brilliant. They were patient, encouraging and great with the kids, and they made sure everyone was involved and having a good time. It's a perfect activity for families with mixed ages and experience levels. Highly recommend, and we'll definitely be back!
We were returning customers from last year because it was such a good experience last time. This year we just did the fishing and not the farm tour and it was still such a good, relaxing time.We fished for an hour and a half then had some fish tacos and sashimi. The best, freshest fish and a awesome experience. The staff are awesome and you can tell they actually love their job.Might even come back a third time next year! Thanks guys
Tool a trip today whilst on holidays. Awesome experience, staff were very knowledgeable and informative. Would highly recommend. We had Lincoln on the juvenile pool, was a fantastic guide.
Hook-A-Barra was a fantastic activity to do while on holiday in North Queensland. It was so much fun, and those barramundi sure put up a great fight while reeling them in! The staff were very welcoming, friendly, and informative. We also thoroughly enjoyed the barra tacos for lunch afterwards. Highly recommended!
Had such a fun time and caught this ripper! On the way out a group of Ferraris showed up so that was a bonus.Shoutout to the young fella on his day off who came up to help me unhook one of the barra whilst the rest of the crew were busy.
Absolutely love the placeGave you a good talk all about the Barra then we were able to go fishing in the ponds to catch oneThe staff were friendly and helpful. Had a great time recommended to anybody. If you want to go for a fish, go to the first session at 9 am better chance of catching one in the morning
We had a great time. We all caught a fish and they made sure you didn't leave without having caught one. All the staff were really friendly and helpful and the lunch was very tasty! Definitely a place to visit!
We had an awesome afternoon of Barra fishing! My two little ones couldn’t believe the fish they caught. Gracie was amazing and all the staff were fun and knowledgeable. Thanks so much for an unforgettable day.
This amazing day out started when we stepped onto the Barra bus, Adam was our driver, engaging, informative all the way to the Barra farm. We didn’t know what to expect, but we soon realised it would be forced relaxation, just what we needed ! All staff were great, however … Noah a young crew member was exceptional with us old sea hags 🤣 he was patient and kept his cool when constantly asked “help Noah” professional when the catch was on, serious about his job, made us laugh out loud and more importantly .. HAVE FUN !I would definitely recommend the Farm Tour and lunch, it was informative, one on one with the guide, and up close with the process of the farm. Now yes the big fish in the Trophy pond are a challenge, but they are seasoned and smart and “play” with the experienced idiot on the end of the rod 🤣👏It’s a game .. and at the end of the day .. a catch was done and fresh Barra was had for dinner !
Did the full show, farm tour, lunch sampler and fishing. Farm Tour was very informative given by a Canadian tree hugger. Lunch had a sample of Barra done grilled, crumbed and sashimi, chips and slaw. Good size samples, you won’t go hungry. Fishing was awesome, caught 3 and released. Arrived at 10:30 and out by 1:30.
Great fun way to finish a weeks summer warmth in Port Douglas. The staff were brilliant with a couple of novices. Caught two fish eachDefinitely recommend
Such a fun experience at Hook-A-Barra! The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and we had a great time fishing. We decided to stay for lunch afterwards and ordered the fish and chips and fish tacos, which were both delicious. My husband said it was the best fish he’s ever had (and I agree)! A great experience from start to finish and definitely worth a visit.
We’ve been locals for about 5 years and have been here for lunch a few times, but we’d never actually had a go at fishing.Yesterday we finally did it, and it was bloody fantastic! There’s nothing like the excitement of catching a fish — we had a great time! The staff were super friendly and really helpful. We’ll definitely be back for another go. Highly recommend it!
We had such an amazing time at Hookabarra Barramundi Farm and can’t recommend it enough! We did the farm tour with Steve, who was incredibly passionate, knowledgeable, and such a great guide — you can tell he truly loves what he does and knows everything there is to know about barramundi. As a total novice when it comes to casting, I was a little nervous, but Steve patiently showed me exactly what to do and gave great tips — it made all the difference! We fished for about an hour and each caught two beautiful barramundi — such a thrill! 🎣To finish, we each got a huge tasting plate and it was delicious — fresh barra sashimi, perfectly grilled barramundi, and crispy battered fish & chips with fresh coleslaw. Every bite was amazing.A wonderful experience from start to finish — my partner and I had the best day.
My grandson and I had a great time caught a couple of great size Barra. The staff were amazing very informative and helpful. Definitely go there again if back in the area.
A great experience. Lovely, friendly and helpful crew. Rob and Adam guided us into catching a few fish. Steve led us through an interesting tour on the farm. Food was delicious. Highly recommend.
What a great place to visit in the Daintree area. Leigh and the team do an awesome tour of the farm and the Barra tasting board for lunch is highly recommended!
Had a lunch break here while heading back south after the end of our vacation in the Daintree.Could recommed as they offer freshly caught fish and chips. The expectations were fully met, great food and great service!
Ideal stop while going to rainforest Daintree! It has the price going there even from Cairns.Beacuse you can try fishing there and we had so much fun.And the food is especualy delicius!
We had a wonderful experience at Hook a Barra. The introduction was very informative and our guide Aidan was very helpful showing us the technique to land a Barramundi. The staff were very accommodating with my elderly mobile impaired dad also.
My husband and I did the farm tour and throughly enjoyed the experience. Our guide was very informative and answered all our questions. We were lucky enough to be there when they were harvesting which was interesting to see. We also had a beautiful lunch where we had Barra prepared 3 ways for us to try.We both caught a couple of barra each and had an absolute blast. Thanks guys for the great day We will definatly recommend you to others.
What a great experience we had today at Hook-A-Barra. Thourraly enjoyed the farm tour and my son will carry the memories of catching 4 plate size Barramundi (2 kept) and a 81 cm Trophy Pond Barramundi for the rest of his life. Great staff, yummy food and a totally brilliant experience.
We did the tour and one of our group did the additional fishing experience, with success. From our initial experience ringing up to book, I spoke to a very helpful fella, who happened to be the same fella taking the tour! The tour was very informative and interesting, finishing with a decent sized serving of Barra served 3 ways with salad and fries. Absolutely delicious. The fisher in our group caught fish, including an 81cm one, so he was very happy. All staff there were very helpful and friendly. An experience to be recommended.
We had an awesome experience, the team are very friendly and knowledgeable. We caught Barra during our hour and two fish were 94cm long. Highly recommended...
A great experience to learn about fish, and hook up to some good Barramundi. Great service with experienced staff, a nice tidy run establishment. Thanks
The best Barra and chips in FNQ is what the claim to have and i would have to agree .Lovely fresh Barra ,light batter and nice coleslaw on the side .Definitely worth the stopon your payback from Cape Tribulation.
We had a fabulous time here today. We booked the farm tour and lunch and it was worth the money. My hubby landed 6 barra, I only landed 2 but it was fun.We were taken into the sheds and got to see the immunisation of fingerlings and then saw tgem released into the pens. We had the whole ethos of the barra farm explained to us and came away with far more understanding of fishing than we had before. Our lunch mch was really fresh and tasty Barramundi three ways and was all deliscious. We really enjoyed our tour and the fishing.Glenn and Lisa
Hook-A-Barra had us caught hook, line and sinker from the minute we walked in.We saw this location as we were driving through the daintree and couldn’t resist a visit. We did the one hour fishing tour and it was amazing. My wife and I were shown the ropes and provided assistance throughout.Additionally, the food was fresh, tasty and cooked on the spot. We got batter fish and chips. However, if you are a fish lover, then check out their range of food options. Plenty to choose from!Would definitely recommend!!!
Great experience, it was really fun.Our Family (Hook-A-Barra x7).The little pond was really fun , I recommend it. We weren't so experience with fishing when we came here. But that changed when we left because of the two young assistants named Will and Aiden. They were really kind and experienced to help with the fishing. We booked from 9 to 10 in Winter (It was a mistakes) Therefore we had a privat session. The fish were not so active in cold water so we recommend booking later. But overall one of our best experience in Queensland.
Visited on a weekend day. Easy to book. Easy to find. Well organised and well staffed. Great fun catching Barra and the best fish and chips in the north!
Thanks to Leigh, Grace, Rob and the whole team at Hook a Barra. It was an epic experience for our family today. The lunch was fantastic with obviously fresh barra on the menu done three ways. Great to see fish farming done so ethically and sustainably- it’s easy to understand why they’re rated so well. The whole catch and release was really fun with fish welfare front of mind. The staff went out of the way to ensure that our children really enjoyed themselves. This is a must do activity for families!
Awesome afternoon at Hook a Barra, great overall experience. Definitely a must do while in the area. Highlight was catching a few Barra in the trophy pond.
So much fun! We caught 5 huge barra’s! The staff were awesome and you can take the fish you catch for a really reasonable price. Definitely recommend!!
We had a great time. Do the full tour, there is lots to learn about running an aquaculture farm in The Daintree. Caught some awesome size Barra. (Would have liked the full fishing hour in the top pond for more photo opportunities but it is school holidays and we understand that it is busy). The Barra tasting plate advertised with the full tour wasn't available but the fresh fried fillets were absolutely delicious ❤️Definitely recommend this tour 👍😁
We booked the ‘Farm & Fishing Combo’. Rob was our guide and he was very knowledgeable and friendly. We then feasted on Barra three ways - crumbed in a taco wrap, crispy skin grilled and fried with chips. And then the highlight of our time here was fishing the ‘barra’. Everyone caught big fish and a shout-out to Lincoln for his expert fishing advice.
What an awesome experience at Hook-A-Barra! The food was fantastic, the staff were so friendly, and the fishing was an absolute blast. I have to admit, I wasn't convinced about fishing at all, it's never really been my thing. My partner insisted we give it a go, and I'm so glad he did because I think I ended up having even more fun than he did! To top it off, I caught a bigger fish than him, which made the day even better. We'll definitely be back!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️If you’re visiting Port Douglas, I can’t recommend Hook-A-Barra highly enough! We did the farm tour experience, and it was one of the highlights of our trip. The behind-the-scenes tour was fascinating and gave us a real insight into how the farm operates. The fresh meal included afterwards was an absolute 10/10—delicious and a perfect way to finish the experience.A special mention to our guide, Gracie, who was sensational. She was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely passionate about what she does, making the tour both informative and fun for the whole family. What really set Hook-A-Barra apart, though, was the exceptional customer service. My daughter accidentally dropped her iPhone into the barramundi pond, and the staff went above and beyond to help. They even sent one of their young team members into the pond to retrieve it! Thanks to their incredible efforts, we left with one very relieved—and very happy—teenager. From start to finish, the entire team made us feel welcome and ensured we had an unforgettable experience. A fantastic outing for families, great food, wonderful people, and outstanding service. We would absolutely recommend Hook-A-Barra to anyone visiting Far North Queensland!
