Great experience, staff were all friendly and extremely helpful. Caught a few big ones. Lunch was also amazing. Great few hours out definitely worth the trip.
Amazing fishing experience at Hook-A-Barra. We had a family of 4 (3 of us fished and all caught at least 1 Barramundi if not multiple in the hour). We also stayed for lunch which was superb - Barra tacos and Barramundi and chips were all delicious. Very friendly staff and a safe environment for kids to do fishing too. We will definitely be back again.
Excellent afternoon from a fun and also a technique perspective. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience plus we bought some fillets for dinner which were superb. Will have this on our itinerary for next time!
Family of 7. 5 of us fished only my youngest daughter didn’t land a Barra hook came out after 40-50 seconds of fight I have the video footage.Would have no hesitation in going back.
We visited Hook-a-Barra as a family of six and had an amazing day!! We enjoyed the farm tour which was so informative and gave us a new appreciation of all the hard work that goes into barramundi farming. The staff were so helpful and friendly especially with our younger boys, helping them with fishing tips and techniques. The food included with the farm tour was so delicious and was the best barramundi we have ever eaten!! Thank you for an amazing day!!!. From Ben and Lesley Shanks. Bowral NSW.
Had an absolute blast. My son is very proud he caught not one, but four barra. The staff were amazing and friendly, very knowledgeable and make sure that the kids get at least one fish.We ordered some barra from the kitchen and it was delicious and fresh. Definitely lives up to the reviews.
Son and I pulled in around 6 nice sized Barra, he caught one monster, all in an hour of fishing. Steve and staff were very informative and great where I could see them helping anyone that hadn't hooked up to ensure everyone got a fish, what more could you ask for?
We had an epic time at hook-a-barra, the staff are incredibly knowledgeable and very friendly. Our kids had a ball and we all caught Barras 🎣 highly recommend doing this if your around the Port Douglas area.
Great experience 🎣 everything from the friendly helpful staff to the catching of fish. Didn’t try the food but it also looked amazing.Would highly recommend this for a family outing
This place is a must visit! The Barra farm is absolutely fantastic, the staff are wonderful and the cafe is delicious. Michael gave us a tour of the farm and educated us on Barra, also gave us pointers on how to land the fish and was just up for a chat. Second time here and will be back many more times. We were lucky enough to catch an Albino Barramundi also!!Thanks team at Hooka Barra for a wonderful morning again.
Came for food only and was impressed by the presentation and friendliness of the staff.Definitely recommend getting the tasting platter.Photo is tasting platter ($16) and crumbed fish with salad ($19)
Thank you for a great experience. Took my 14 year old Granddaughter and we both had a memorable day. Caught three Barra each and took a couple home for dinner, and being salt water fish they were delicious. The staff were great, but the taste platter was excellent. Fantastic!
This is hands down the place to visit when around the Port Douglas area. Thanks to my lucky socks, I hooked up a trophy within 15mins with plenty more hits on the lead up!!! Biggest fish I’ve ever caught. Amos the guide was super helpful, generous with advice and time, and has a great sense of humour. We also fished in a pond with smaller fish, which resulted in numerous catches. This place suits everyone, but particularly those who want to know what it’s like to catch a monster and for kids who want the excitement of catching multiple big fish. I couldn’t recommend this more.
Dropped in today, low season. Very quiet. Amos was on the desk. He was so friendly and informative. Educated us on Barramundi and the farm. We sat and ate the most delicious fresh Barramundi. The chef was amazing, order the tasting plate, you won't regret it. Watched a young boy catch a huge Barramundi from the trophy pond. They handled it with care and put back into the pond.Great tourist spot, even better people. Don't drive past.
This place is a must to visit, it’s a whole experience and the team are so knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. My 15yo son loves his fishing and had the best day ever thanks to whole team. The food is also next level, I thought I’d had some good Barra meals before but I was wrong, the food was amazing!!!Thanks so much guys for making today one of the best things we’ve done this whole trip 👍
Excellent for those wanting a fun well run experience around Port Douglas area with friendly staff and massive trophy barras in the ponds ready for the catching. They also have a good supply in the freezerof Barra fillets and the very popular barramundi spring rolls which you will find all over in the Port Douglas and Cairns restaurants and seafood stores. Get them a bit cheaper here.
Outstanding day. Michael picked us up from our accomodation and was so friendly… took us around farm, great food and caught a few Barra on way… highly recommended
Lucky find driving past.Amazing experience for all of us but particularly for 93 yr old kiwi bloke!Amazing concept, thoughtful, knowledgeable, excited, approachable staff, special thanks to Steve and the wonderful Flynn who really went the second mile for Erin and for the huge fish Flynn helped Erin catch. It was HUGE!Flynn spent 10 mins flat on his tummy on the berm, reaching into the water, helping the barramundi recover from its out of water experience..Thankyou guys for such a wonderful afternoon and for making Erin such a happy man.
The hostes were friendly and informative. Every student we took on the day caught fish, so nobody went home without bragging rights. The freshly cooked fish was very good as well.
This place is a must visit up this way. It is really well run with friendly staff, sensational Cafe and tremendous family friendly fishing. They went well out of their way to make it a very memorable trip for my kids with my young son landing a 95cm barramundi.
Would highly recommend a visit to Hook-A-Barra.The whole team were very friendly and knowledgeable. An amazing experience to hook one of these awesome creatures and to feel the strength and power they have!Something we’ll never forget. Also had barra and chips there afterwards which were delicious!10/10
Booked in for a fish, easy to use website. Warm friendly welcome on arrival. Then a bit info about the farm and Barra before getting to have a fish. All gear supplied with friendly staff to help. You would think it would be easy being in a farm but it wasn’t. Managed to land one around 75cm and dropped two. The fish certainly made you work the lure to entice them. Highly recommend this place.
We had a great experience at Hook-a-barra. We did the farm tour and fish. Our tour guide was Michael, he was very knowledgeable about the farm and local area and history. Didn’t manage to hook a trophy fish, but did get a smaller one. Tasting plate was amazing. Highly recommended
Highly recommend spending an afternoon at Hook-A-Barra. The crew are incredibly friendly and accommodating. Special shout out to our fishing crew Flynn and Coral - we caught a Barra (worlds smallest 🤣) Must try the grilled barramundi, delicious 🤤
If you’ve ever wanted to feel like a fishing prodigy while simultaneously questioning your own coordination, look no further than Hook a Barra! Amos was my instructor but he also doubles as a master comedian. I was taught how to cast a fishing rod, and I think I nailed it—well, sort of. After a minute of showing my slow self how to lock and unlock the reel, I caught my first Barramundi from one of the immersive commercial ponds! Massive shoutout to Amos, Bailey, and whatshisname...It was an awesome experience and definitely well worth the sunburn!
Fantastic day at Hook a Barra… Steve was very informative, helpful and excited for us.. he deserves a beer at the end of the week 😜 we also had lunch which was excellent.. thoroughly enjoyed the experience..
What an amazing experience, a great part of my bucks weekend, a fantastic morning. The guys at Hook-A-Barra Bailey, Amos, and what’s his name, provided a great customer service experience, as a novice I learnt some basics about fishing and a lot about the Barramundi. Thank you.
Great friendly staff, you dont just throw a bait out and drag in a fish every time. You have to work a little with the lures, which makes it far more exciting when you hook up, grandsons party was a big hit with all the kids catching multiple fish each, and the fish are huge, and give you a good play on the line.
It was a fabulous day from being picked up from our accommodation to the farm tour and a fabulous lunch the fish was melt in the mouth and then trying to hook a Barra which was fun and the team were very helpful well worth it
We had the best experience here! We did the farm tour, tasting platter and 1hr fish. The staff were amazing, super friendly and very determined to get everyone a fish and see a smile on everyone’s faces. The tour was super interesting getting to know behind the scenes and learn how much they really care about the fish. The tasting platter was something else absolutely amazing. Definitely recommend going here
Great experience, my wife and I managed to hook 4 barras in one hour, and we are new into fishing (my wife got a 5+ kg one, she beated me unfortunately…)
What an awesome morning out!! Booked last min the night before then rocked up way to early and they were nice enough to fit us in with an earlier group. Absolutely lovely people all keen to have a chat and give you a few fishing tips and tricks. And the food was awesome!!! Definitely a must do!!!
Awesome service. Friendly atmosphere. The best food in all of Douglas shire.I had the Teriyaki Barra balls and I can't describe how scrumptious they were. My husband had the Barra Berger with the works, big loaded burger, awesome chips. Definitely going back for more. 😃
Amazing 3hr Operations Tour, lunch then some fishing. Our guide Dan really brought us into the day-to-day of running a fish farm with great stories and knowledge. Lunch was Barra 4 ways, see photo. Then we went to the ponds. This is my type of fishing, 2000 fat old barramundi in a small pond who can't get away. Everyone got a fish, well almost everyone.. This is a great family day out from Port Douglas
Came with the family, a great experience for everyone even those not throwing a line in. The fish burger is not to be missed as well - kitchen closes at 3pm so get there before then!! Yum yum.Staff very friendly.A great experience. Thanks Team Hook-a-barra! 💪🏻💪🏻
We had a great day here with our son who was desperate to catch his first Barra. Lee and his team were so patient and helpful and we all loved the experience. Best fresh barra burger for lunch after too!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️After 5 days in the lush Daintree Rainforest, we decided to further support the local economy and drop in to Hook-A-Barra after getting off the ferry to have a suss (and feed!!! OMG, Chef Charlie is the bomb 🤌)Every staff member we had interaction with went above and beyond. The team was very accommodating too allowing Chris to flyfish and me, well - we all know I MUST use my Rapala Crushcitys and they had no dramas with me switching out what they use to my Pink Sunset Heavy Hitter. We've been to another Barra Park, and unlike it, every fish we saw caught at Hook-A-Barra was in fantastic condition and well respected when being handled. The team ensured that no participant in our session left fishless, some even getting on rods to double the chance of the little ones getting their Barra. As the park is also a fully operational Barra farm, you have the option of keeping a catch, if you so wish. We didn't. However, I would have no hesitation to do so as all the ponds were in pristine condition, as was the whole park/farm and its amenities. Thanks, Hook-A-Barra. we'll definitely be back for a bit of fun on the rods ... and that Barra Sashimi
The place is great. A non fishing family with two kids under 10 who have never fished were reeling them in without a problem. Endless help with self learning combined and a great little cafe for a feed after. Don't drive past, pull in, and reel them in.
What an awesome experience! The team are super knowledgable and did their best to make sure everyone got their catch. We were lucky enough to catch one in each pond. Thanks so much team
Book this tour! What an amazing day. Lee was welcoming, friendly and super knowledgeable. Cassowary falls was an experience I'll never forget. Thank you. It made for a very memorable birthday
We had a fantastic day out at Hook-A-Barra!I took the whole family. We let the kids fish while we watched. Really good instruction - and very informative. They kept an eye on us fishing too and gave us plenty of tips. Both of our children caught a couple of fish. Great fun!!The guys there were fantastic. I highly recommend them!
An excuse to leave Cairns and travel up our beautiful coast for the afternoon. Friendly and informative instructors by our sides to guide us and everybody caught at least two fish in the hour. Will be back for more and to try the tacos.
A great experience and loads of fun. There were 6 in our group and Steve was outstanding in making sure everyone caught at least one barra each. Was especially useful to learn how to catch this particular type of fish. Highly recommend.
Michael was a great host and showed us a great time. We enjoyed the tour and learnt a few things about the barramundi industry. He took the time to help our younger nephews catch fish. All round a great experience.
Had a great family day out and the crew were great with my kids and would highly recommend anyone to go and do a few hours here. We will be back. Thanks guys
Had a great time at Hook-A-Barra. We did the farm tour with lunch and fishing. Michael was our guide and did an outstanding job and explained everything we needed to know about Barramundi and the workings of the farm. We then sat down for a lovely Barra tasting plate before delving in to an hour of fishing. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area
Did a tour of the farm as well as sample the food and some fishing. The farm operates in a very economical sustainable way whilst also producing fantastic eating barramundi. The food cooked up here by the chef is amazing I went back for 2nd lunch! And of course being able to hook a barra is always fun
Have to say that all the staff were incredibly friendly, helpful and informative. The farm tour was interesting and well presented. Whilst fishing the crew were there to assist and offer advice as well be as landing catches for the fishermen. At no time did we ever feel rushed or pressured - thanks for a great experience.👍👍
We had a great morning at Hook-A-Barra, caught two barramundi- one at 98cm! All staff were super friendly and helpful. We purchased some barra fillets and cooked for dinner that night which tasted delicious. Thanks for a great experience!
What a great day at Hook-a-Barra! A huge thanks goes to Michael and Dan. They who taught us about Hook-a-Barra and more importantly how to catch a Barramundi. We decided to do the catch and keep experience because my wife loves Barramundi. They did warn us we may not catch anything because we would be fishing in pond that is not normally used. With their help, providing fishing tips, sorting the bird’s nests I created in the braid and manning the landing net we were both able to land a good size Barra, 4.5kg and 8.5kg.Unfortunately, the other 2 in our group got hooked up a few times but failed to land a fish. 😞At Hook-a-Barra when you do the catch and keep there is an $18 per kg fee for the fish. And as my dad would say – You catch it, you have to clean it! That’s right, Hook-a-Barra do NOT clean the fish for you if you want to keep them. That was fine with me, never had to clean a Barra before. For those of you not from croc country. It’s not recommended or fishing etiquette to clean fish near the water or boat ramps. And any discarded fish bits – heads etc should go in the bin. Not back into the waterways – it can attract crocs. Nobody wants crocs waiting at the boat ramp for a feed. 😉Happy fishing
What a great experience! We did the tour, tasting and fish, loved it all. Michael was a great tour guide and a wealth of information. Both my husband and myself both hooked incredible Barra. Highly recommend the experience.
The fishing experience here is generally good, especially if you're into catching barramundi. The equipment provided is decent, and the staff are reasonably helpful. However, the setting is quite basic and may lack some of the excitement found at more elaborate tourist attractions. It’s a suitable destination for a quiet day of fishing but might not offer much beyond that for those seeking diverse activities.
Brilliant. 1 hour session. We caught a barra which we took for dinner....small meal for 4 $25. Then I caught this big fella which I put back but it gave us a better idea of what to use when we fish from our boat. Staff were great and helpful but you'll have to gut and fillet your own barra even if you buy it.
What an experience! Plenty of help offered by staff and a satisfying way to introduce kids to actually catching something! Although mums sometimes land the big one!
What a great day....Michael and the rest of the team were so welcoming and great easy-going personalities, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The whole experience was great, from the informative tour, the taste testing and of course catching a few good sized barra. Can't recommend Hook-A-Barra enough, a must do!Cheers Allyson & Mike
This was such a fun experience! The whole family hooked a Barra and they all say it was in their top 2 activities from our Port Douglas holiday.Staff were super helpful & friendly. Parking was easy. Highly recommend!
Stopped here as part of our ‘Daintree Sensations’ day trip. Had a tour of the facility, fished and had an amazing lunch - food was simply superb and they were able to cater for GF with ease. Will definitely return for lunch and another fish one day. Checkout ‘Daintree Sensations’ if you want a truely fabulous day.
Brilliant place, had a ball! Staff are super helpful, informative and friendly. Very generous on fishing times. Was a fantastic experience - A MUST DO!(Lunch is also delicious!!)
This was a great experience! Very friendly team, and super interesting to learn about their business. The kids had a ball hooking the barra and the food was excellent.
We had a wonderful experience on the farm and fish tour at Hook a Barra. The staff were incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about Barramundi farming and sustainability, making the tour both informative and engaging. The fishing was a lot of fun, with multiple ponds to try and the chance to catch a few Barramundi. They maintained high standards for fish welfare throughout. Highly recommend!
If your going here for a fish be sure to grab something to eat as well. Absolutely delicious, brilliant chef. Best feed you will get!!!We had Taco, Burger, Spring Rolls, Crumbed Barra, plater for one.... all of which was 10/10From Tassie 🐟
had a really fun arvo here, great experience. especially if you are just up here for a holiday and don't know your way around local fishing spots. you learn something about these iconic aussie fish and have a great time trying to catch some. I got lucky and caught quite a few and a big dog just over a metre too! special thanks to dan and michael, great fellas, keep going! can definitely suggest to visit if you feel like a bit of fun barra fishing. some footage soon on my youtube channel: traveller's mindset! 🤙🏼🎣
Great day at Hook-a-Barra, the tour was really interesting and the tasting platter delicious and generously sized. Great value on the family price. We all caught some Barra although the big ones were elusive. There are lots of friendly and helpful staff around to help out and make sure everone gets the best chance to land some. We went for more fish and chips after - couldnt be fresher.
Really good fun, thoroughly enjoyed catching a couple of this iconic Australian species of fish,(even if it is a fish farm). Staff were great as well.👍⭐️👍
