It was a fun experience with knowledgeable and friendly staff. And the included lunch option was delicious. Will bring the kids with us next time. Thank you.
10/10 experience. We were having such a great time we extended our visit by an hour. Steve especially was a great help, sharing interesting facts before we started fishing. Would absolutely go again!
An awesome half day farm tour, fishing and lunch provided by the friendliest team imaginable. The team go out of their way to ensure you experience catching these majestic fish! The whole experience was personable and friendly and very informative but hey it’s all about catching a Barra and they go out of their way to do everything they can to see that happen. We caught at least 10 (wife and I) Barra round the 600-700mm range and had several hook ups in the trophy pond but spat the hooks when they jumped but hey that’s the challenge of catching big Barra!Recommend to bring your friends and family and have a great time catching the most iconic fish in Australia!!! 👍👍👍
Amazing experience! My husband and our 4.5 yo caught a barramundi each quite quickly! The staff was very helpful and done everything possible to make our experience enjoyable. We then had a mouth watering grilled barramundi with chips and salad, and a barra burger that was also delicious and cooked to perfection.I highly recommend Hook a Barra!
Great staff that are super friendly. Property is really cool with lots of little bara ponds to watch over. Can eat lunch here without paying for fishing and have great fish tacos. They are hopefully soon to get a liquor liscense too!
We stopped in on the way back from the Daintree without a booking and the Staff were super helpful and friendly! They helped with the kids and made sure we didnt leave without catching a few big fish! Absolutely fabulous experience. The food was delicious too ! Can't wait to be back
We had so much fun out at hook a Barra, got to catch some fish and taste it at the great little cafe and even got to take buy a fillet and take it home to cook up. Staff were great! If you love fishing, this is a great place to come !
This was a great experience. We can’t speak highly enough of Hook-a-barra. The team were so accommodating and Gracie, Johnny and the team went above and beyond to make sure all three of our children landed a barra.
Mark and the team were amazing. so informative, friendly and helpful throughout the whole experience. The food tasting was great, the kids absolutely loved it, and we all caught a fish!!We will be back again and highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for a fun and memorable day out.
We easily booked the fishing experience online and signed the waivers. As soon as we arrived we were greeted by the friendly Steve. We learnt a lot about barramundi in the first 10 mins of being there. This was an awesome experience to be given a lesson on casting a line, fishing in their trophy pond and then be lucky enough to be taken to another pond by the lovely Adam. He really made the fishing experience memorable and is such a genuine guy who loves his job. We all got to catch a barra and it has created the best memories for us as a family. I really recommend you stop in here while up nears Port Douglas and Cairns.
I booked a fishing experience with Hook a Barra and had a great time. Steve and the crew helped me every step of the way, I thought I knew how to fish but I soon found there is a lot more to know when hooking a big Barra. I landed a few beauties and had a great day out, even got to take some fillets home for dinner. I would highly recommend to include this experience on your next FNQ visit.
We had the most incredible experience at Daintree Barramundi Farm — I truly cannot recommend this place enough! From the moment we arrived, the team made us feel so welcome. Matt was so friendly and cooked the most delicious barramundi for our family it was honestly one of the highlights of our trip.Johnny was fantastic, getting us all set up with rods and making the whole experience fun and easy. What really stood out was how patient and kind he was with my 4-year-old son while helping him unhook the barra he caught such a special moment for us.Gracie was absolutely amazing. As a mum with two young kids, I felt so comfortable and looked after. She went above and beyond, even taking my kids for a walk to the fish shack to see the tanks, which they loved. Her warmth and care really made the experience extra special. This is such a great experience for everyone whether you’re a solo traveller, a couple, or a family. Watching the barra being fed at the end was such a fun and memorable way to finish. We’ll definitely be back. Thank you for such a beautiful experience! 💛
Hubby and I have been twice now. This time, we booked for the farm tour, fishing & a tasting plate of barramundi and could not fault our morning. The farm tour was relaxed, but informative and a great insight to why this works! The Barra were biting and fighting and the tasting plates at the end of the day was absolutely delicious! Highly recommend. We’ll definitely be back!
Our trip to Hook-a-Barra was an absolute standout and offered incredible value for a family day out. The kids had the time of their lives, and the thrill of them landing their own barramundi made for some unforgettable memories. The staff were exceptionally friendly and patient, providing expert tips that ensured everyone—regardless of experience—walked away with a catch. Between the top-notch service and the pure excitement of the fishing, it’s a must-do experience that we can't recommend highly enough!
Hubby and I had such an amazing time!We managed to catch six barramundi between us, which made it even more exciting. It was so much fun—perfect for couples or families looking for a great day out. We’ll definitely be coming back
Outstanding experience from start to finish.A little bit of education, a whole lot of fun and great fish feed! What more could you ask for. 10 out of 10 from us! 🐟Experienced catching decent sized barra and definitely dont say no to the barra tacos they are delicious 😋Staff were friendly as. We are an adult couple and had a great time but would also be an epic adventure for the little ones.Highly recommend 👌
Had a great family day out and the crew were great with my kids and would highly recommend anyone to go and do a few hours here. We will be back. Thanks guys
We had the most incredible day at HookaBarra yesterday. From the moment we were picked up all of the staff were so fun and welcoming. Amazing farm tour, beautiful food, and the team made sure we left having a great fishing experience.
Great place to visit, staff were fantastic, highly recommend using the poppers in the big pond. I caught 3 barra in my fishing time. Definitely be back next time I holiday up north.
This was definitely the highlight of our trip to Port Douglas. We had so much fun! Thanks for providing this memorable experience. The staff was so helpful and the food was delicious.
Barrimondi was a bucket list fish. Steve gave me a tip on how to catch & I exploited it. I caught 13 fish total in 3 hours up to 87 cm, Fantastic time Big shout out to Steve, Thank you to all the others for your help in landing & especially reviving the fish. Patrick Kerr from Ormond Beach, Florida.
Absolutely brilliant! Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff from the moment you walk in.The information provided about the farm and the process is interesting, even for our all knowing and hard to impress teenagers! Getting to feed the fish and watch their striking power first hand, practically from our hands was a highlight.I thought our guide's guarantee of catching a fish was a bit of a stretch, but low and behold he was bang on seeing the 3 of us get to exclaim "fish on!" multiple times.Being on holiday from cold Victoria and looking to tick a Barra off the bucket list, this is the place to do it. Hour and a half session, excellent help and gear provided, managed to reel in an 80cm fish, then tasted the famed fish from the kitchen. It was a ripper day and I can't recommend it enough, especially if you're tight for time or aren't keen on a half day fishing trip on a boat.
Good talk about barramundi. The fishing was good and we caught lots of barramundi. Well worth going. My grandson loved it. He also caught fish 1/2 his size well done lochie. Tight lines to you all.
So much fun!! We wanted to spend another hour there, great for novices. The crew are super nice and will go the extra mile to help with your technique and not walk away empty handed!
What an amazing day, the staff were great, answering all our questions. The first pond was so much fun with a prity much 100% chance of catching a very nice size barramundi. Then to be able to move on to the trophy pond, where I was able to catch myself a 89cm and an 85cm barra beast. Thanks to all the staff awesome day out.
Recently experienced hook-a-barra, this was a interesting activity the people explained the operations of the barramundi farm how it all started. We fished in 2 ponds. The first was a harder catch rare catches as fish are older didn't catch anything the second however younger fish more fierce caught 3. As this was game fishing it was more for sport. 36 degree day 5 hours ( burnt ).Lunch was freshly made Barra burger, grilled barramundi and barra sushi tasted awesome. I would recommend this for a nice day of sport fishing!
Could not recommend enough. Great family activity (with a 2 year old). Staff were exceptional and made the experience. Felt just like a day flicking lures with mates.
Two mates with 50 years of sharing the love of fishing 🎣 and friendship, shared this explosive experience that will be shared over a beer 🍻 or two over the next years to come.
Couldn't ask for a better day out fishing! staff are friendly, knowledgeable and more than willing to help if you need it, or just let you do your own thing and explore the ponds.A must do if you're up this way!
After spending 100s of $$$ trying to catch wild barra with no avail.A bucket list must.We decided to try hook a barra.Cheating, but who cares. The pic is important and knowone needs to know.I was able to catch multiple Barra in an hr. They are a Very healthy fish that put up a great fight and I finally got Several pics. The staff are amazing, very knowledgeable and extremely helpful.I would highly recommend these guys.My wife even had a flick n caught one.
Our experience at Hook-A-Barra near the Daintree was outstanding from start to finish. We booked the two-hour fishing session and successfully caught barramundi — a true bucket-list fish for us. Steve and Brice were exceptional guides, clearly explaining techniques, offering hands-on support, and helping us net our catch. The operation was incredibly well run — everything started on time, the facilities were clean and organized, and there was a convenient spot to grab snacks and refreshments. Even with a little rain, the experience was enjoyable and comfortable. We also appreciated learning about the local barramundi harvesting process and having the chance to feed the fish — such a unique and educational touch. Highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting the area.
What an amazing experience. Steve was our Guide and he went out of his way to help my youngest daughter on our day. We will be back next trip to Nth Qld
Incredible day! Fishing experience was so much fun.Staff were extremely knowledgeable, had such respect and compassion for their fish. You can tell the Barramundi are very well cared for.The kitchen also prepared the most delicious barramundi tacos, super fresh, juicy, and tasty. 100% recommend!
Absolute brilliant experience. Food was great too. Hit up a smaller pond and got smashed by barra then chased some bigger ones in the trophy pond. Workers were determined to get us hooked up to one and showed up many techniques and changed our lures to try all options. Recommend highly
A must do attraction if staying around Port Douglas / Daintree! Great day out for the entire family! Excellent staff, educational, and most importantly great fun! We started fishing for the smaller Barra where everyone in our group caught numerous fish, before moving onto the ‘Trophy Pond’ and catching some trophy fish (800mm+). Entry gets you a free sun protection face mask (shown in the photos) and there is also a discount for locals. You can bring your own rod / lures as well. Good food and a relaxed place to sit in the shade with a cold beverage and watch the excitement of other families reeling in fish. The kids loved the brag board too, where you list the size of the biggest fish you caught, although the fish seemed to grow a few cm’s between release and recording on the board 🤔 There were smiles all around,I highly recommend giving it a go!
I cannot recommend this place enough. One of the most fun and welcoming experiences I had in Cairns. The boys were very welcoming and friendly, all helping out making sure we were ok and helped teach my partner how to flick a lure. Rob was an absolute legend, he stayed back with my partner and I to make sure we enjoyed our time and had a good barra experience. This place is at the top of my list if I return to cairns, I’ll be sure to come past for lunch next time!Make sure to ring before you go and make sure there is a session running, and go in early if you want to have lunch as the kitchen closes early!
Had the best time. Great commentary from Amos on the way and tour. We had a beautiful lunch of fish and chips for me and fish tacos for hubby all made from fresh Barra. Best of all bagged a 92cm Barra and got myself on the brag board.
Excellent guides. Aquaculture walk around the farm was really interesting. Go on a Wednesday morning, when they harvest the barra with a big drag net and an excavator
The lads here helped me catch my first ever fish! It's a great experience and they let you keep fishing until you catch something, which is greatly appreciated. Great, friendly team.
I can honestly say Hook-A-Barra was an amazing and great experience and Lee was the most perfect host, adding great advice which made this venture a memorable one! Tight Lines was an understatement for this beast
We've visited Hook-A-Barra half a dozen times over the years and the kids are excited to visit every time. The farm is professionally run and the staff go to great lengths to ensure you have a great time and catch some Barra! The staff are very patient with visitors and offer advice on lures and technique. They also show genuine care for the Barra in how they handle and release them. Hook-A-Barra is a must do when in FNQ.
A must do experience with kids. We came with my 9 year old son, none of us had any experience in fishing and We ALL had an awesome time. Learning a bit about the barramundi, catching a few fishes each and finished our time with a delicious lunch - the absolute BEST FISH AND CHIPS in Queensland. You cannot ask for more!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!
Came with some colleagues to Hook-a-Barra just before Christmas and it was a great experience. Friendly staff, and a great setup! Managed to snag a 104cm Barra too which was the pick of the day! Good food
Had a great time here. Terrific crew who look after you very well, and educate you too! No guarantees that the barra will bite but it's great fun when they do (especially the big ones 😁😁). The tucker at their Cafe is top notch too. Highly recommended.
Awesome day for the whole family! Everyone loved it and we all caught something. Suitable for all ages, both of our boys had a great day (3 and 8). All of the guys were friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend and well worth it.
Great place and friendly staff that provided great tips on how to catch the big ones. We spent 2 hours fishing and caught great fish. We had lunch there. Highly recommend it.
We came here with our 7 and 5 year old kid and had an incredible time! Everyone caught some barramundi, the educational briefing before hand was insightful, and the food was DELICIOUS! a well run operation!!
A fun and informative half day excursion that was value for money. Staff were all friendly and helpful and focused on giving you a great experience. The farm is a commercially operating salt water barramundi enterprise and it was so interesting to learn how the fish are raised and great fun to fish for then release a barra, followed by a yummy fresh barramundi lunch.Thank you Lee for being an excellent guide.I would definitely recommend this experience, suitable for anyone who can cast a line or eat fish.
We had a fab time with Leigh. Yes it rained a lot but we went prepared with a poncho (KMart Port Douglas have them) and change of clothes. An awesome time catching fish and then a tasty lunch. Those barra are very strong for their size. Had me hanging on to the line with force!
What a lovely place! We didn't fish but took a farm tour instead. It was facinating and a lot of interesting facts about the history of the farm and day-to-day activities. And the lunch was so delicious! Just fish and chips but deserves all five Michelin stars. If you are in the area, go and visit the farm.
Unreal experience. The staff were u real. Made it super memorable for my 7 year old. And the work they do for the barramundi is top shelf in terms of how the manage the farm. Great experience
We were lucky to have VIP treatment as onky ones on that time slot before more customers came. The staff have so much knowledge helping us to catch barras. I caught an 88cm and my partner 90cm along with others and many bites. We bought one of the ones we caught to bring home for dinners over 4kg yummy. The crew showed us techniques with different lures (I loved the frog) definately will be back for another visit. I recommend the 2 half hour if you really want to try to catch the big ones well worth the money Thanks guys was an awesome few hours.
The boys had a good time Hooking a Barra. Matt was very informative and friendly. Rob was very helpful with tips for hooking a barra. We had fish & chips for lunch there, fresh from the pond.Highly recommend going there.
